The Deceptions of Satan
The Eleventh Sign
The Qur’an proclaims in a miraculous manner that the wrongdoing of the people of misguidance enrages the universe, stirs the universal elements to fury, and causes all creatures to become indignant. It describes, for example, how the heavens and the earth assailed the people of Nūh during the Flood; how the air and wind raged against the denial of the peoples of ‘ĀdAn ancient nation to whom Allah sent Prophet Hūd (as). They rejected his message and were destroyed by a violent wind as a punishment for their arrogance and disbelief. and ThamūdAn ancient nation to whom Allah sent Prophet Sālih (as). They rejected his message and killed the she-camel sent as a sign from Allah, after which they were destroyed by divine punishment.; how the water and the sea rose in fury against PharaohThe ruler of ancient Egypt who opposed Prophet Mūsā (peace be upon him). and his people; and how the earth itself was angered by Qārūn.
Likewise, in the verse:
تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِIt almost bursts with rage. — The Qur’an 67:8.
the Qur’an describes the rage and fury of Hell toward the unbelievers. In the same way, it portrays the anger of other created beings toward the unbelievers and the people of misguidance. Through such proclamations, it warns them in a most striking and miraculous manner.
The Question: Why should the insignificant actions and personal sins of such insignificant people arouse the anger of the entire universe?
The Answer: As has already been shown in certain treatises of the Risale-i Nur and in the preceding Signs of this treatise, unbelief and misguidance involve grave violations and crimes that concern all creatures.
For one of the most important purposes of existence is the human being’s worship of Allah, together with his īmānFaith; belief in the six articles of faith: Allah, His angels, His revealed scriptures, His prophets, the Hereafter, and divine decree (qadar). and submission in response to His rubūbiyyaAllah’s lordship over all creation and His provision for all their needs.. Moreover, all creatures have, in a certain sense, been created and employed in order to make Allah known to mankind.
Yet through their unbelief, the unbelievers and the people of misguidance deny both the purpose of the human being and the purpose of all creatures, which is among the reasons for their continued existence. In this way, they violate the rights of all creatures.
Furthermore, they deny the Divine Names whose manifestations appear upon all creatures and which, through those manifestations, confer honour and value upon them. In this way, they dishonour the Divine Names and, by diminishing the value of all creatures, deeply insult those creatures as well.
Every creature holds, as it were, the rank of an official of the Lord entrusted with a lofty duty. Unbelief, however, strips it of that rank and presents it instead as lifeless, transient, and meaningless. In this respect too, it violates the rights and dignity of all creatures.
In short, according to the degree of his misguidance, an unbeliever violates to a greater or lesser extent the Divine wisdom underlying the creation of existence and the sacred purposes for which the world is sustained. For this reason, the universe becomes angry, all things are stirred to fury, and all creatures become indignant toward the rebellious and the people of misguidance.
O helpless human being, small in outward form, yet great in sin and wrongdoing, and burdened with immense guilt and shame! If you wish to be saved from the anger of the universe, the aversion of creatures, and the wrath of all beings, then here is the way:
